IEs4Linux is the simpler way to have Microsoft Internet Explorer running on Linux (or any OS running Wine).
No clicks needed. No boring setup processes. No Wine complications. Just one easy script and you'll get three IE versions to test your Sites. And it's free and open source.

The news is all around the blogosphere this morning and I am really happy about it, I could not resist the temptation :
One Social API to rule them all, One Social API to find them, One Social API to bring them all… and in the darkness bind them!

3 Skypephone and it’s impact on the Telecoms industry and walled gardens :
The second observation pertains to the ‘unified address book’. I have long talked of the unified address book as the holy grail which Operators will aspire to get to (…) How will we react to presence on the phone for the first time? [...]

Serial entrepreneurs and today’s Silicon Valley:
For the first time in history, you have a global market of 1+ billion people, all connected over an interactive network where they’re all a click away from you. That’s amazing.

We have the following opportunity in front of us; the web is [...]

One Million Strong For Your Name Here :
The question that remains is what good the group serves. If these groups are little more than the “bumper stickers” on our profiles, are they worth candidate time and effort? I’m skeptical, but I’m not yet ready to write groups off completely.

The next big thing: User-contributed metadata :
(…) users are contributing a potentially far more lucrative Web currency–metadata about themselves. It’s the currency that will help Facebook grow into its $15 billion valuation. In addition, users are also contributing structured (meta) data about data, which will help the semantic Web to flower.
    That’s a great way of [...]

Plusieurs nouvelles à vous annoncer, des petites et des grandes. On November 3, 2007 from 9AM to 6PM the local Montreal tech community is hosting its own “unconference” called BarCampMontreal3. It’s at the Société des arts technologiques (SAT) on 1195 blvd St Laurent, between René Levesque and Ste. Catherine. The bilingual event is free of charge for all participants, and includes lunch, coffee, and a commemorative T-shirt.
BarCamp events have sprung up throughout the world — from New Delhi to Marseilles to Guelph — organized by volunteers who want to get together with other techies or builders. Although most of the presentations at previous BarCampMontreal events have been about the Web or Free and Open Source Software, all kinds of topics are on the table.
Previous talks have been about how to travel alone, how to build a clock, and alternate voting systems, to name a few. Anyone who’s willing to share some knowledge and communicate their passion is welcome to talk. It’s really about the generalized idea of what a “hacker” is. There’s already a birds-of-a-feather meeting scheduled for Debian developers and users — other Linux and FOSS subjects will probably also be covered in BOFs.
Registration is suggested beforehand — it helps the organizers plan how much food and beverages and stuff to get. See BarCampMontreal3 registrants. Sponsorships by local clubs, companies, and individuals are also being solicited; see BarCampMontreal3 sponsorship for details.

My UPS died today, so I went to the store to get a new one. It came with a USB cable and when I plugged it into my desktop an icon popped into the Gnome panel to show me my new UPS, how much charge it had, etc (and I assume shut it down when . Very cool, and honestly completely unexpected. I think a couple of years ago I would be much less impressed by this, but as I find my free time dwindling I really appreciate when things just work. It's also a small, but encouraging sign that "Desktop Linux" is making good progress.
